Do you have uber-talented, fantastically funny friends?

I do!!

And one of my besties, Erin is so talented that she writes not one, but *two* blogs in addition to a full-time gig that would make you insanely career jealous, freelance writing gigs, all while executing general fabulousness on a daily basis. I can barely manage one blog and two cats, let alone exude coolness on a daily basis. Gotta love when you can friend-up 🙂

Erin’s (along with her dedicated foodie husband Scott) first blog, Hungry Times Two focuses on fun eats, recipes and restaurants. In her second blog, Thirty For Thirty, Erin chronicles the successes (and sometimes setbacks) of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Lucky for me, I not only get to claim Erin as mi amiga and read her fantastically PASSIVE-VOICE-FREE-writing, but occasionally she even lets this circus monkey hop up on stage and guest star in a rambling, meandering post or two.

So check out my friend’ Erin’s blog Thirty For Thirty. You’ll get two bloggers for the price of one and you just might recognize some circus shenanigans from this clown.

Y’all have a great week!

Motherly Love

This weekend, Somanna and I tackled our bare dining room walls. They now have color. A color I chose after much deliberation.

Alas, now that the second coat is up and dry, I’m not quite 100% happy with it. I chose Bradstreet Beige by Benjamin Moore, a lovely color. However, this color possesses an ever so slight pinkish undertone that threatens my very sanity.  Is it a bad color? Well, no. Does it look horrible? Not really. It looks quite nice actually. It’s just not…quite what I wanted. It’s that blasted pinkish undertone I tell you!  I find myself staring at the wall until I start to twitch and mutter things under my breath.

Pinkish Undertone! It’ll drive you MAD!

Somanna contends that I am crazy, that there is no alleged “pinkish undertone” and that the color looks fabulous.

But I went ahead and called my mother anyway for back up to lament about the pinkish undertone that threatens my sanity. She in turn, proceeded to recount how I won an art award in sixth grade for “good use of color” and that proved beyond a shadow of a doubt (or an in-the-flesh-husband) that if I say there is a pinkish undertone, then there must be one. Mama also instructed me to never doubt my color judgment skills because clearly this award indicated that I am in fact, a color prodigy.

I hung up feeling vindicated, err better.  Even us crazies love some good ole Mama praise. I mentioned this conversation to Somanna, in passing of course, you know just to rub it in that there is a pinkish undertone and that I am a color GENIOUS, HA!

He just looked at me said, “Yea, well she can’t see what you’re wearing.”

Cheeky.

INDIA!! (Bet you didn’t see that coming did ya?)

I could bore you with another blog post with more musings from suburbia and what not. But frankly, I find that dull. And since this week I am in one of those “screw home ownership, boring corporate jobs, and bland American food” funks, I figured we’d all reminisce over our adventurous trip to India. Or at least we’ll reminisce. Yall can just tag along for the blog post 🙂

So hop on board kiddos! We’re blogging back to the Motherland!

And what better way to kick off our trip than with an Indian Safari?! How’s THAT for fun, eh?

Since this was our first trip to India as newlyweds (aww – shut it) Somanna’s parental units very graciously gave us an overnight stay at Kabini River Lodge so that we could consummate our marriage enjoy some of India’s spectacular wildlife. But first let me say again a big THANK YOU to Mavi & Pop! Because they rock and deserve a shout out for such a sweet gift.

So we kicked off our Kabini Romantic River Lodge get away with another fun and fabulous road trip through Indian countryside. As you may recall, road trips in India are especially entertaining. Just remember to take your Dramamine. Or plead for the front seat due to motion sickness like I did 😉

Literally vs. Figuratively.

Some people have a hard time differentiating when a sentence or statement should be taken figuratively and when it should be taken literally.  So let’s use my Ma as an example.

Figuratively:

“Aiyo now when going for my walks around the estate I just keep a look out through the bushes as if there’s an elephant or something that might come charging at me” – My ma.

World Cup Fevah!

Sooo we’ve been watching a lot of soccer football this week. Just like 6 billion other people.

Because we’re original like that.

In fact, we just watched the Ghana v. Australia game on our local Hispanic channel Univision.  It’s muy bueno because as you know I am rather fond of The Spanish, and I’m actually fluent in Spanglish. Which means I understand phrases like “arriba!,” “claro!,” “bueno,” and “Gooooaallllllll!!!”  I often repeat the announcer’s words every chance I can, which means my accent tends to have an overly excited machismo slant.  And that’s just the kind of accent that Somanna has always wanted to hear whisper sweet nothings into his ear. His swatting me away love taps with his hand only confirms it.

Em-Barrassed

We have lived in “nuestra casa” for almost two years. In fact, our two-year closing anniversary is next month.

And this entire time, we’ve been especially thankful for our oh-so-helpful neighbor Rob. Whom we have called by name many, many times. And he always responded with a friendly, but slightly generic “Hey guys, how’s it going?” We just assumed he was hesitant to pronounce Somanna’s name and that he probably didn’t know mine since he and Somanna tend to chat more. No big deal.

At least that’s what we figured.

Turns out his name is Bob, not Rob.

Good to know. Especially for this year’s Christmas cards.
