Well Hell’s Bells…

It’s March.

So much has happened and yet…so much has not.

I’m not sure what sort of strange vortex/time warp February is, but in the end I’ve determined that it is really a cruel, cruel joke of the calendar. “The shortest month of the year” it boasts. What a load of crap. And don’t even get me started on that insidious little leap day “bonus.”

So February lasted an eternity. Despite my pleading for the month to move on, I can’t help feeling surprised that it’s actually March. I guess I didn’t really think February would relinquish the calendar spotlight. I don’t mean to hate on the wee month; I’m just not a fan of long winter months, what with their limited hours of sunlight and post holiday blues.

I’m sure you’re wondering what busyness kept us so preoccupied that we couldn’t blog during the month of romantic love and all things Cupid, hallmark and Olive Garden.  Well for starters, I got sucked into this series of books:

I pretty much ignored everyone and everything while reading The Hunger Games. Seriously, ask Somanna. I don’t think we really talked while I read these books. Unless you count my half-hearted murmurs of “mmm-hmm” and “sure thing, whatever you say” as conversation.

Which Somanna did not.

Sir Wikipedia describes The Hunger Games as the story of a young woman named Katniss, who lives in a post apocalyptic world in the country of Panem, where the countries of North
America once existed. The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis, holds absolute power over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected, by lottery, to compete in a televised battle in which only one person can survive.

It’s kind of like a futuristic version of the Gladiator games…except children are sent to the Hunger Games. I know it sounds weird, but trust me, it’s good.

I had been struggling with a reading drought when this fast and furious trilogy entered my every waking hours. I kept dawdling between all of these “serious” and “morally conscious” books when truthfully what I wanted, nay needed, was a whirlwind courtship of gripping narrative, excitement and suspense.

Ok, so that sounds really trashy and uncomfortably sexual, but seriously yall, The Hunger Games offers up exciting fast paced, EASY, ENTERTAINING reading. Are they as deep and moralistic as the Harry Potter series? Blasphemy. But are they fun and riveting? You betcha.

In short, I recommendz them.

Once I devoured that soap opera, I of course had to get my soap fix somewhere else.  This led me from futuristic Panem to an  estate home set in Great Britain during the early 20th century, a la Downton Abbey.

Logically.

And now I have officially devoured Seasons 1 and 2. Sigh.

Oh and speaking of devouring things, I made brownies last Friday night (don’t envy my exciting life) and I feel the need to confess that they were gone by Monday.  As in….we ate them all.

Anyhoos, the other major impediment to our (lack of) blogging falls under “technical difficulties.” See we have a slight, digital organization problem. We have:

one old PC desktop (that has my main iTunes account)
one old Apple desktop (that has the “nice” photo editing software)
two external hard drives
one old PC laptop (that you can’t unplug or the battery dies)
one really old and now defunct Apple laptop that I still hope to retrieve some photos from
3 cameras
about 4 thumb drives
easily 10 memory cards
4 other iTunes accounts
a Flickr account
two Picasa web albums
two facebook accounts
cd’s of some photos backed up
a crap desk
and one blog.

And a sh*t ton of photos. Photos, photos, photos!

Photos in one location, but not on the other. Photos backed up in place, but not online / in cyberspace. Photos not backed up at all. Photos that could be deleted. Photos that have never been blogged about ( Hello India trip!) because they could use some editing.

It’s a disaster. A digital disaster.

So our big goal for 2012, pending our tax refund (yeah, that was the other timesuck in February – our taxes), is to purchase some fancy, new fangled equipment, (Hello portable laptops! Hello smart phone!) preferably equipment that begins with “i” and ends in something Apple-riffic like pad, pod or mac. And get our digital act together.

But we’ll see. PC land is way cheaper, but the Apple seduces me just like Eve in the Garden of Eden.

I am such a woman.

Smite me now Rush Limbaugh.

And that Dear Reader is what’s new with us.
